8-Day Normandy 76 Luxury Tour

Normandy76_Luxury_D8

Introduction

The 76th anniversary of D-Day
Celebrate the achievements of the Greatest Generation in style and make a luxurious Norman hotel your home base for an unforgettable week in France. The commemorations of the 76th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy will truly be a unique event. Visit all five landing sectors and gain an in-depth understanding of what it took to storm those beaches on that fateful day. Visit iconic sites like the Normandy American Cemetery and Pointe du Hoc, as well as Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Pegasus Bridge and Brecourt Manor to learn more about the airborne operations away from the beachheads. We also attend a special commemoration ceremony. Adding further flavor to the week’s activities is a vast array of World War II vehicles on display and in motion, parachute jumps, air shows, and much more, which we aim to attend as their timing and our itinerary allows. D-Day is just the start of this tour, as we also explore Falaise and the magnificent abbey of Mont Saint-Michel and the castle of William the Conqueror.
Please note that the exact schedule of local D-Day anniversary celebrations has not been announced yet. The order of events on our anniversary tour is liable to change to accommodate the celebrations.

Itinerary

  • Passengers are greeted at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and transferred by coach to Normandy. In the evening there is an introduction to the tour and a chance to get acquainted over a welcome drink.

  • The day starts with a visit to Dead Man's Corner Museum in St-Come-du-Mont and an opportunity to buy authentic and replica WWII items. We then stop at the monument near Brecourt Manor, site of Easy Company's famous assault on a German artillery position. The afternoon features visits to Utah Beach and Sainte-Mère-Église.

  • We begin the day with a visit to Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. The day continues with a trip to Pointe du Hoc, where Rudder's Rangers ascended the steep cliffs to take out the long-range artillery threatening the landing beaches.

  • The day's highlight is the 76th anniversary celebration of D-Day. Before and after the event we also explore the German battery at Longues-sur-Mer in the morning, then drive on to Arromanches at Gold Beach, where one of the two Mulberry Harbors was constructed. Later in the day we also make stops at Juno and Sword Beaches, and Pegasus Bridge.

  • We spend the morning in the medieval island abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, which was a popular tourist destination for occupying German soldiers during the war. In the afternoon we take in Saint-Lô, known as The Capital of Ruins after 95% of it was destroyed during the Battle of Normandy.

  • The day is dedicated to the Falaise Pocket, where many of the German defenders of Normandy were eventually encircled. The trip includes the castle of William of Normandy, who conquered England in 1066, and the Montormel Memorial at the hill where Polish troops plugged the gap on the Pocket.

  • We spend the day exploring world-famous sites such as the Bayeux Tapestry, or the Men's Abbey in Caen, the city whose capture eluded British forces for two months.

  • After saying goodbye our guests are brought to Charles de Gaul Airport in Paris for their return flights.
